Hispanidad con Cileia Miranda

The presentation with Cileia Miranda was interesting. Truthfully, I was expecting it to be boring but it wasn't. She kept my attention and surprised me of  how little I knew. She knew the history and facts, and it was all personal to her. She came from Mexico and told us the identity crisis she faced when she came here. These Mexicans deal with a lot when they come here to the United States. She told us the four most important things to any Spanish person is 1. FAMILY 2. FRIENDS 3. FOOD 4. FUN. When these Latino/ Hispanic people come over here they are sacrificing everything. They leave their family and friends behind so they can give them a better life. I believe many people don't fully understand this; they think they have come to take away jobs from 'Americans'. As Mrs. Miranda explained, this country was based on immigrants. They have a right to have a chance at a better life just as much as you and I do. Theirs just includes coming to another country. I was born and raised in America but I have recently gone to Mexico twice this year. One doesn't fully understand why these people come here until you see the poverty they live in. As many of us complain about it being hot or being bored because the television doesn't have anything good on or we don't have or iPod, they go all the time without out air conditioning, televisions, or iPods. The ladies all do laundry by hand because they can't afford washers and dryers. It is sad to see this poverty down there but very humbling. I hope everyone takes the time to look at both sides before assuming. --Laurencita <3
